Wedding venues in Alexandria, by the sea.

Alexandria weddings have their own rhythm: the Corniche, the sea breeze and long summer nights. Here is how to choose a venue in Alexandria, Egypt, and what to plan for that Cairo couples often don't.

The sea changes the plan

Most couples want the sea in the background, and Alexandria delivers. But wind, humidity and winter rain are part of the city. An outdoor reception on the Corniche in July is a very different plan from one in January. Choose the season first, then the venue.

The main types of venue

  1. 01

    Seafront hotels

Hotels along the Corniche, from San Stefano to Montaza, offer ballrooms and terraces with sea views, in-house catering and rooms for guests travelling from Cairo. They are the safest choice for a large guest list or a winter date.

  2. 02

    Gardens and open-air venues

Garden venues in Montaza, Mamoura and on the edges of the city give you space for an evening under the lights. Ask about wind cover, lighting, sound limits and a plan B indoors.

  3. 03

    Clubs

The city's sporting clubs, such as Smouha and Sporting, host weddings in their halls and gardens. Booking usually depends on membership.

  4. 04

    Halls

Dedicated wedding halls across Smouha, Rushdy and Kafr Abdo suit couples who want everything in one package.

Choosing by area

  • San Stefano and Gleem: the heart of the seafront hotel scene, central for most guests.
  • Stanley and Rushdy: the bridge, the bay and some of the city's most recognisable photo spots.
  • Smouha and Kafr Abdo: clubs and halls, easy access from the desert road for Cairo guests.
  • Montaza and Mamoura: gardens, palace grounds and a quieter, greener setting at the eastern end.

Seasons and timing

Summer is high season. Families come to the coast, and Thursday and Friday nights at seafront venues are booked early. Spring and early autumn are the sweet spot for open-air receptions. Winter weddings are usually indoors.

Many Cairo families plan an Alexandria wedding so guests can make a weekend of it. If that is you, think about the drive on the desert road, hotel rooms for older guests and the time your party ends.

Questions to ask every venue

  • Is the sea-view space included, or only the ballroom?
  • What is the plan if it is windy or it rains on the night?
  • What is included per person, and which suppliers can we bring?
  • What are the deposit, payment schedule and cancellation terms?
  • Can the booking be moved to another date, or transferred to another couple?
