Guide · Taking over a date

Taking over someone's wedding venue booking.

A date at a venue that is otherwise fully booked can be the best news of your engagement. Before you agree anything with the couple, check these five things with the venue.

Five questions for the venue

  1. 01

Can the booking move to new names?

Not every venue allows transfers. Ask the venue directly, not only the couple, and get the answer in writing.

  2. 02

Is there a transfer fee, and who pays it?

Some venues charge a name-change or admin fee. Agree with the couple who covers it.

  3. 03

What has been paid, and what is still due?

Ask the venue for the exact amounts and the payment schedule, so you know what you are taking on.

  4. 04

Does the package stay the same?

Check the menu, decor allowance, hours and per-person price. Packages and prices can change between years.

  5. 05

Will they confirm it in writing?

A new contract or a signed confirmation under your names is what protects you.

How it usually works

On Save the Date, you tap "I'm interested" on a date. If the couple accepts, you both see each other's number. You talk, visit the venue together if you can, and the venue moves the booking to your names. Any payment between you is agreed directly. We never handle money and we take no fee.

Stay safe

  • Don't pay anyone before the venue has confirmed the transfer to you.
  • Pay the venue the way the venue asks, and keep every receipt.
  • Be wary of pressure to decide fast or to pay in cash before meeting.
  • If something feels wrong, message us on Instagram and we will look at the listing.
