Start with three numbers

Before you visit a single venue, agree on three things: your guest count, your month and the night of the week. Guest count decides which rooms are even possible. The month decides indoor or outdoor. The night decides price and availability, because Thursday and Friday nights are the first to go at popular venues.

A fourth number, your total budget, matters just as much. Venues in Cairo usually quote per person, and the package (dinner, decor allowance, sound, lighting, hours) varies a lot. Compare what is included, not only the headline price.

The main types of venue

1. 01

   Hotel ballrooms

   The classic Cairo wedding. Five-star hotels on the Corniche, in Garden City, Zamalek, Heliopolis, New Cairo and near the Pyramids offer ballrooms with in-house catering, valet parking and rooms for family. They are the easiest for large guest lists and winter dates.

2. 02

   Nile-front terraces and lawns

   Several hotels and venues along the river have terraces or lawns for receptions. They are the most photographed setting in the city and are best from spring to autumn, in the evening.

3. 03

   Gardens and open-air venues

   Sheikh Zayed, 6th of October, New Cairo and the Pyramids area have garden venues and villas built for weddings. They give you more freedom with decor and timing. Ask about lighting, sound limits, power, toilets and a plan for wind or a cold night.

   Clubs

   Sporting and social clubs host weddings for members and their families. They can be good value with a familiar setting, but booking rules depend on membership.

5. 05

   Nile boats

   A smaller, intimate option for receptions on the water. Check capacity, sailing time, mooring point and what happens if the weather changes.

Choosing by area

• Zamalek, Garden City and Downtown: central, close to the Nile and to the older five-star hotels. Easy for guests coming from across the city, but evening traffic is real.
• Heliopolis and Nasr City: convenient for East Cairo families, with hotels and halls near the airport road.
• New Cairo and Fifth Settlement: newer hotels, compounds and garden venues. Many couples here look for open-air spaces from spring to autumn.
• Sheikh Zayed and 6th of October: gardens, villas and newer venues in West Cairo. Popular for outdoor weddings with plenty of space.
• Giza and the Pyramids: hotels and venues with desert or Pyramids views, unforgettable for photos.
• Maadi: quieter, green, with a mix of clubs, hotels and Nile-side spots.
• New Capital: newer venues for families based in East Cairo and the new city.

When to book

Popular venues often take bookings a year or more ahead for Thursday and Friday nights in peak months. Outdoor venues fill up from spring to early summer and again in autumn, when evenings are mild. Many couples avoid Ramadan, so the weeks around Eid are in demand too.

If your ideal venue is fully booked, that is not always the end. Plans change, and a couple who booked a date months ago may need to pass it on. Those are exactly the dates we list.

Questions to ask every venue

• What exactly is included per person: dinner, drinks, decor allowance, sound, lighting, screens, hours?
• Which suppliers must we use, and which can we bring (decor, photography, DJ, cake)?
• What is the deposit, when is the rest due, and what happens if we postpone or cancel?
• Can the booking be moved to another date, or transferred to another couple?
• Until what time can the party run, and are there sound limits?

Finding a date that has just opened
